How to get the most from Twitter

How to get the most from Twitter

One of the things I’m often asked about is how to actually use Twitter.  I’ve written a post about this before, but this time I thought I’d ask my followers on Twitter for their best experiences.

The two questions I asked were:

What’s your one best piece of advice for success on Twitter?

and

How do you make the most of Twitter?

I also promised to put the results on my blog  - I’ll tell you why at the bottom of this post.

The results

Here are the tweets that I’ve received so far:

@Bikini_beat - ”Mine is to actually have fun with it rather than treating it as an item on your to-do list… what a concept!” - http://www.bikinibeat.org/

@savamaloy - ”if your photo is of a scantily clad young girl and you list ‘modelling’ among your interests, you’ll get more followers!” - http://www.piggynap.com/

@Tocquigny - ”Success on Twitter is based on knowing who is following you” - http://www.tocquigny.com/

@Rusty44 - ”Interact with your followers” - http://www.riddenhard.us/

@blogdesigner“I use twitter to build a network of voices and belong to a wonderful tribe of people and we help echo our voices to a larger mass”http://www.blogthememachine.com/

@HollowMarkeD – “follow interesting folks and don’t be afraid to prune out noise” - http://www.guava.co.uk/

@icasimpan – “Never use twitterfeed specially if your feed gets updated with several posts at a time as it would be like sending spam” - http://www.buggedtech.com/

Quite a lot of advice there – some of it I don’t necessarily think would work for me but it’s great to get a mixture of feedback.

For me, the best advice there is to interact with your followers.  This whole post came about thanks to interacting with my followers.  I also said that I would provide a link to their website because it gives people an incentive to respond as well.  And I’m a great believer in sharing links – see this article to see why.

I’m a new Twitter user, but based on my experiences so far, I definitely agree that if you post too many blog entries, you probably shouldn’t use Twitterfeed. I had to stop following someone because they filled up my entire page with their individual blog updates. It was too much.

Also agree with communicating with your followers. If you aren’t talking to your followers, they will care less about what you have to say and you’re kinda just talking to yourself.

Hi Brian,

Thanks for your comment. I haven’t actually used Twitterfeed before. I don’t post too often, but I definitely wouldn’t want to spamming people!

That is so true and I think twitter is to express ourselves from our inner. I have been reading about a lady who got an unconventional job which don’t exist in jobs sites. I think twitter is something more than anything in our life.

I find Twitter really useful, and I know there are a lot of people out there that just dont get Twitter. Really Tweet what you can, give great info, use great tags, and those that are searching for your info or related keywords used in each Tweet will want to follow you.
No fear of spamming there.
Twitter coupled with TweetDeck make for a great synergistic marketing/communication tool.
I say don’t worry if you are blogging regularly, and have Twitterfeed running, you can’t spam if people have the option to follow you or not. Simple really. So what if you lose some, what you end up with is quality following, and isn’t that the real game?

I hope I have been of assistance with my 5c worth.
Steve.

I am completly new to this. kindly tell me more about twitter. In fact i am hearing it for the first time

Great post, I really enjoyed reading this. I’m off to register with Twitter now…
